Shapard Ashley was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1978. He is a native of Montgomery, was educated at local public schools, and received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Duke University and his J.D. in 1978 and LL.M. in Taxation in 1987 from the University of Alabama. Prior to joining Capell & Howard, he clerked for Judge R. E. Varner, Middle District of Alabama. Shap's area of concentration is commercial real estate, with emphasis on shopping center development. He is a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. He has served as Chairman of the Alabama Bar Association's Real Estate, Trust and Probate Section as well as its History & Archives Committee. He is a lecturer at various real estate seminars of ABICLE, various title insurance companies and title insurance associations.
