George Beck joined Capell & Howard in January of 2004. He received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University, and his law degree from the University of Alabama. In addition to serving as Deputy Attorney General for the State of Alabama for eight years, George also served in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps of the Alabama Army National Guard for over thirty years, retiring at the rank of Colonel.
George's private practice has also featured defense of public and corporate officials accused of white-collar crimes. He vigorously defended a former governor who eventually received a full pardon. He has defended and negotiated settlement under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for corporate and public officials accused of wrongdoing.
Two important civil trials resulted in multi-million dollar verdicts for his clients. One of the largest federal tort claim awards on behalf of eleven babies injured after birth by a hospital medical technician was the focus of a CBS “60 Minutes” special. Interviewer Mike Wallace praised George for his persistence in pursuing the mysterious case and obtaining justice for the little children. In 1999 Mr. Beck obtained the highest non-government jury verdict in Montgomery County in the amount of $37 million in representing an insurance company against one of the “big three” accounting firms. He recently received a multi-million dollar verdict in North Carolina on behalf of an insurance agent who had been wrongfully terminated.
George has successfully handled numerous consumer class actions and participated in at least two landmark Alabama Supreme Court class action decisions.
