Bob Meadows was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1974, after receiving an A.B. in Economics from Davidson College in 1971, and a J.D. from the University of Alabama in 1974. While at Davidson, he was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, a member of the baseball team and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. Prior to joining the firm, Bob clerked for Judge R. E. Varner, Middle District of Alabama, in Montgomery, Alabama. Bob is a native of Opelika and serves as the senior member of Capell & Howard's Opelika/Auburn office.
In the past, Bob has served as the President of the Lee County Bar Association and the Alabama State Bar Young Lawyers' Section. He remains active as a member of the Federal Bar Association, The Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute, the Alabama Association of School Board Attorneys and is currently serving as the Bar Commissioner for the 37th Judicial Circuit. He is also listed in the 2007 and 2008 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the Commercial Litigation category.
Bob's practice emphasizes trial work in the areas of insurance defense, school law, domestic relations, white collar criminal defense and commercial litigation. He represents several school boards in East Central Alabama and is himself a member of the Opelika City Board of Education.
Bob is active in the community, serving as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Opelika Chamber of Commerce for 2009-2010. He also served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of his Church from 2006 through 2008. For many years Bob coached in various recreation baseball leagues. In the summer of 2003, Bob was the head coach of the Opelika 13 year old Dixie Boys All-Star Team which won the Dixie Boys 13 year old World Series Championship in Jackson, Tennessee. In 2004 his team won the Dixie Boys State Championship.
Bob is retired from the United States Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps. While a member of the Reserves he served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, earning the Bronze Star.
