Chris Weller was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1987, and practices in the area of employment, construction and general commercial litigation. Chris received a B.A in Political Science from Furman University in 1984 and a J.D., cum laude, from the Cumberland School of Law in 1987, where he served as a Casenote Editor for the Cumberland Law Review. Prior to joining the firm, Chris served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps. Chris is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.
Chris joined the firm in 1995, after practicing commercial and complex litigation with the Birmingham law firm of Burr & Forman. The focus of Chris' practice is generally complex labor & employment law and commercial litigation which centers on the defense of civil cases in state and federal court. Chris has had lead responsibility for the defense of a wide range of civil lawsuits involving claims of sexual, racial and age discrimination, product liability, the Alabama Motor Fuel Marketing Act, fraud, breach of contract, negligence, construction, personal injury and other issues affecting employers and businesses. He is currently serving as class counsel for the State of Alabama in the largest employment class action case filed in the State's history. Chris also provides counseling and guidance to employers on a wide range of topics, including termination and discipline, harassment avoidance, reduction-in-force issues and noncompete and confidentiality agreements.
Chris is actively involved in local civic, religious and political organizations. He is an author and frequent speaker on employment law, trial practice and professional responsibility. He has provided advice on election law compliance issues to state and federal office candidates. When not practicing law, Chris is an avid gardener, backpacker, runner and active father.
