Carla concentrates her practice in the areas of labor and employment law, commercial litigation, and probate and estate litigation. She regularly advises clients of all sizes on federal and state employment laws, including employment discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful discharge, employee leave policies, wage and hour issues, unemployment compensation claims, employment policies and procedures, and non-competition/non-solicitation agreements. Carla assists employers with daily personnel issues, including the hiring, discipline, and termination of employees and the development and implementation of employee policies and handbooks. Carla has represented clients in cases filed in federal and state courts and in proceedings before various state administrative agencies, and she is experienced in defending charges before the EEOC. Carla frequently presents materials on a variety of employment-related topics at seminars for clients and human resources professionals.
In addition to studying business during the pursuit of her undergraduate degree, Carla studied business law and tax law while in law school. Given her training and interest in business and tax law, she also assists clients with commercial litigation, business dispute resolution, and trust and estate litigation. Carla has experience representing clients in income and estate tax cases before the United States Tax Court and the Alabama Department of Revenue. Carla has also successfully argued an income tax appeal before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Carla actively volunteers at her daughter’s school. She is a member of First United Methodist Church where she serves in various volunteer capacities.
